David Moyer was the grandfather of JRI pianist Frederick Moyer. He was a child prodigy pianist who at an early age performed in vaudeville theaters throughout the US and at age 10 played for Theodore Roosevelt at the White House. Before he was a teenager, he had moved away from his parents in Philadelphia to Berlin where he studied with some of the great pianists of the age, including Ferrucio Busoni and Ernst von Dohnanyi.
Author Ruthann D. Moyer brings her great uncle to life in this beautifully touching portrait of a stolen childhood but a life rich with music.
